Artist Feature

What a weekend! The weather was perfect for a two day festival! We had the pleasure of participating in the Round Lake Arts and Crafts Festival held in Round Lake, NY this past Saturday and Sunday. Our tents ran along both sides of the tree lined bike trail so when we weren't selling we were able to enjoy our beautiful surroundings!

As usual, we were blown away by the talent and creativity of our fellow artisans. I would like to profile three of them this week.

To our right was Kathy from Sadie's Suitcase who sells wearable art for dogs. These dog coats are made of wool and recycled sweaters upon which Kathy appliques original designs. These designs are so creative and beautiful that any dog is sure to turn heads when they wear her art!

Along with the dog coats, Kathy appliques decorative pillows and wall art with very intricate designs. They are so bright and colorful that they would look beautiful in any decor!

You can view Kathy's work and place your order for her original art at www.sadiessuitcase.com. She is also on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sadiessuitcase.

To our left was a delightful recent Fine Arts graduate named Sarah. Sarah has taken an art that I thought was lost and brought it back to life with her paper embroidery. She sells the originals as well as prints of her original work. Sarah also embroiders images and quotes on cotton creating a whimsical look that is very contemporary and fresh!

You can view Sarah's work and place an order for her original art at www.sarakbenning.etsy.com or www. sarahkbenning.com.

Have you heard of Tumblewool? Well I hadn't either until I visited the booth across from me at the festival. Wendy felts wool and builds upon it to create these dense balls of wool that are then placed in the dryer to help remove the moisture from clothing thus reducing drying time and saving money.

I have used plastic dryer balls for years and have been pleased with the results. Lately, I've noticed that the plastic points are breaking off so I need to replace them. How lucky for me that Kathy was there!

You can purchase these wool dryer balls individually or in packs of 4 from Wendy's website www.tumblewool.com. They are much prettier than those ugly plastic ones too! Maybe that will make doing laundry a bit less of a chore!

One of the comments I receive from customers is that they would like to see pictures of my items on a live model so that they can gauge proportion. Over the past few weeks I've worked with Alex and Dan of Hitchphotography.com to provide those pictures. Let me know what you think!

We are off and running this month. We just finished at Round Lake yesterday and have to restock and be ready for Speculator, NY on Thursday. Wow!!! I'm going to be knitting my fingers to the bone! We will be at the Speculator Ball Field, Routes 8 & 30 from 9:00 - 4:00. This event benefits the Hamilton County Twigs. See you there!

Until Next Time...

Diane
